The right stainless steel grade depends on the dish rack’s target price, exposure conditions, expected service life, and market claims. Grade 201 may suit cost-sensitive indoor products, while 304 is widely selected for household kitchenware. Grade 316 provides greater resistance in chloride-rich environments but may add unnecessary cost to a standard stainless steel dish drainer.
A dish rack used in a dry residential kitchen has different requirements from one exposed to coastal air, salt residue, high humidity, or strong cleaning chemicals. Buyers should identify where the product will be sold and how users are expected to clean it.
Standing water can create stains and deposits even on suitable stainless steel. Drainage layout, weld finishing, surface contamination, and cleaning instructions therefore remain relevant regardless of the selected grade.

The table is a selection guide rather than a product guarantee. Final performance also depends on material thickness, forming, welding, polishing, passivation, drainage, and user care.
Terms such as premium steel, food-grade steel, and rust-free metal do not provide enough information for a purchase contract. The stainless steel grade for racks should be stated by component because the frame, fasteners, tray, and accessory holders may use different materials.
Buyers may request material certificates or composition testing when grade verification is necessary. The verification method, sampling quantity, acceptance criteria, and responsible party should be confirmed before production begins.
Welding heat can create visible discoloration, while grinding and polishing may introduce contamination if tools are poorly controlled. Check welded joints, cut ends, bends, tray contact areas, and feet during sample approval.
Surface finish also affects appearance. Brushed products should maintain a consistent grain direction, while polished products need uniform reflection. Sharp edges, dents, uneven welds, and visible grinding marks should be defined in the inspection standard.
Use 201 when the product is positioned for controlled indoor use and price sensitivity is a major factor. Select 304 for a broadly marketable kitchen product requiring stronger moisture resistance. Consider 316 only when environmental exposure justifies the additional material cost.
